It is a traditional medicated oil formulation from Ayurvedic classical texts. This oil was prepared using sesame oil base infused with fermented gruel and herbal extracts. Laksha is a resin that gives unique texture and warming properties. Among ingredients present are Haridra and Manjishta that contribute to formulation. Research indicates it exerts its balancing prowess by promoting localized warmth. Studies suggest it can help to soothe, comfort and relax. It contained an estimated 768 ml of sesame oil in classical preparations. This was often used for external application only. It had been described in Bhaishajya Ratnavali texts.
